These beautiful, shy, and playful creatures are known as Chelonia mydas and are the only species in the genus Chelonia. Their body is covered by a huge teardrop-shaped carapace accompanied by two large flippers. To give you an idea of how big Green Sea Turtles really are… They can weigh up to 700 pounds!

 

Their shell is typically a light brown color but can also be found in black in the eastern Pacific. They are herbivorous, unlike other turtles. Their favorite food is seagrass and algae.

 

Green Sea Turtles love to travel throughout the Atlantic and the Pacific Ocean, which means they’re close to home! In fact, one of their favorite spots is La Jolla. And guess what, we’ll take you there!
